Try This Delicious Pre-Bed Snack

That’s right!  You are reading this correctly.  It’s okay to have a snack before you go to bed.  Not only is it okay to have a snack, I think that it’s important to have a snack before you hit the sack for the night.

Now I’m not talking about eating just anything.  That wouldn’t make any since.  You shouldn’t eat simple carbs in the form of pasta, rice, breads, potatoes, or sugars late in the evening.  These types of foods are better eaten right after a workout because they will provide you with energy and help to elevate insulin levels so that nutrients can reach hungry muscle fibers.

The best thing to eat right before bed is a slow digesting protein.  Casein protein is such a protein and will digest overnight while you sleep.  Why is a slow digesting protein so important?  While you sleep your body is still working.  If you go more than 8 hours without anything to eat, your body will go into starvation mode.  Once in starvation mode your body’s metabolism slows down to conserve energy.  This is exactly what we do not want to happen.  Your metabolism should stay elevated even while you are sleeping.

Now the question is – What should I eat that has casein protein?  I suggest you combine cottage cheese (did you know that curds and whey is cottage cheese?  Curds are lumps of casein protein and whey is the liquid between the curds).

Here is a simple recipe for a delicious Pre-Bed Snack

INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup of low fat cottage cheese

1 scoop of chocolate casein whey protein

1 tbsp of natural peanut butter

Splenda (optional)

When I tell people about this recipe I usually get a disgusted look back.  Do not misjudge how great this taste.  If you don’t try this recipe you will be missing out on an incredibly yummy snack.

I eat this each night before bed and it’s become one of my favorite meals of the day.  Also, I can get through the night without fear of going into starvation mode and my metabolism slowing down.

    Great review of Casein !Casein protein is a great protein to satisfy hunger. We use it as a meal replacement, it has to be in certain relationship to increase efficiency.
